What Defines a Pokémon?

A Pokémon as shown in the photo above has several Attributes. These characteristics are what gives Give Them the ability to be unique.

Typing

Within the Pokémon games, there are a total of 18 potential types within the game. These types give a Pokémon its strong suites as as well as its weaknesses to other Pokémon. A Pokémon may only hold only 1-2 typings except for special cases which will not be covered. at the moment. The chart displayed below shows the strengths and weaknesses of each typing, both offensively and defensively.

The Ability

Each Pokémon has a unique ability that alters how they may function in battle. Some abilities might be beneficial or hurt the Pokémon's performance. It is crucial to understand what abilities a Pokémon may have when you are battling. To see what abilities are out there, make sure to check out the link below!

Moveset and Attacks

A Pokémon can learn a variety of moves in a Pokémon game whether it be through leveling up or in game events. To let each every Pokémon be unique, movesets are limited in what they can learn that typically reflect on the Pokémon's type. Though you can learn many moves in the game, you are only permitted to know 4 moves at a time. Each Attack that a Pokémon can learn has its own characteristics such as power, accuracy, and secondary effects. To understand and learn all the moves in the game, Here is the list of moves currently present in the Pokémon games.

Statistics

Every Pokémon has seven classifications of statistics to define its overall effectiveness in battle.

Level

Levels will throttle the overall percent of a stat's potential. Levels will maximize stat potential at level 100. As in the lower the Pokémon's level, The less maximum potential that Pokémon will have.

Hit Points

Hit Points or HP is the threshold in which Pokémon can take during combat before it faints.

Attack And Special Attack

Battle damage comes in two types of forms: physical and special. The type of move will depend which stat to appropriately use.

Defense and Special Defense

Within damage calculations to see how many hit points need to be deducted, a background equation will use either use the defense stat or special defense stat of a Pokémon. This decision is solely based off the type of attack the Pokémon will be hit with in battle.

Speed

This stat solely calculates who will outpace who first in battle.

Natures

Another little attribute changer that Pokémon have. Any pokémon can have 1 of the possible 25 abilities available in the game. These abilites will was one stat by by 10% while decreasing a stat by 10%.(these natures do no increase or decrease the hp stat) These natures are listed in the chart below.

Held Items

A Pokémon can hold almost any item that may be given to them within the game. Various items in the game can help them in battle.

Ev's and Iv's

To not complicate things too much in description, these hidden game stats can increase the maximum of a stat. Ev's are obtainable when you defeat Pokémon in game while iv's are determined before you obtain the Pokémon.
